Debabrata Saikia
Chief Trustee

Shri Debabrrata Saikia is the Chief Trustee of the Hiteswar Saikia Foundation. Born in 1964, Debabrata Graduated in Arts from the Calcutta University.

He became the General Secretary of Assam Pradesh Youth Congress Committee during the year 1992-93 and Self-Employed Review Committee formed by the Assam Pradesh Youth Congress on the same year. He also worked as the Vice President of Assam Pradesh Youth Congress from 1993 to 1996. He was appointed as State Convener of the Bichar Bibhag by the All India Congress Committee in 1994. He also served as a Convener, North East Congress Seva Dal during 1995-96. He became a Member of Assam Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the first time from the Nazira constituency in 2011 representing Indian National Congress. In the 2016 assembly elections, Debabrrata retained his seat comfortably as an MLA from the same Constituency and was made the Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly by the party subsequently on 3rd June 2016.

After the untimely demise of his father Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia, Debabrata along with his brother Ashok and other family members and friends set up the Hiteswar Saikia Foundation, a charity foundation on April 22, 1997. Over the past 23 years, the Foundation has been working to realize the vision of Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia. As Chief Trustee, Shri Saikia continues to provide leadership and take keen interest in the Foundation’s activities and programmes.
